Final Project - Critques

This is obviously very broken.  The video does not show up as of right now.

1.) How do I get the video to show up? Do i need somewhere that will host a 120mb file?
2.) How do I get it to stop playing when I skip?
3.) Creating a path without a mask?
4.) Is the yellow bad?

Final Project Proposal-Shadow of the Colossus

Released in 2005, the video game Shadow of the Colossus is one of the best action adventure games created with amazing graphics for the time.  The premise of the story is that a man travels to a land of colossi in order to have Gods restore life to a young lady.  In order for the Gods to revive her, the man must defeat all 16 colossi.

While playing this game you must travel the vast landscape in order to reach these colossi.  The only way to find your way in the game is use light off of a sword to point you in the right direction.  There is a map in the game, but like most games at the time it is not very straight forward in helping guide you.  There are plenty of tutorials out there that will show the path you need to take and explain information on how to beat each colossus.  What my project will be is making an interactive map combining all 16 paths into one manageable map.  The other reason I want to this is because all of my previous maps I have created were on a more serious topic, e.g. violent crime rates and detailed travel maps.  This allows me to venture out more creatively on a less serious topic.

I will use flash to create the motion tweens, rollover information about each colossus, and creative use of the games icons.  I will create a menu for each colossus using buttons.  I might build a timeline, but it will not be my main focus.

I have already found a great basemap of the “forbidden land”.  I have also found the symbols for each colossus but they are all in one image.  I will use the information from IGN’s wiki to use for the walkthrough and maps of each path.

I will have to use photoshop to chop out each symbol and then make the backgrounds transparent.  This will take some time as each symbol can be really detailed.  Another hurdle I foresee is creating the motion tweens to match the path that the player must take to reach each Colossus.  The biggest hurdle I foresee is creating a good popup that allows me to put URL’s in the popup.  I will not have room to explain how to defeat each colossus but I can link the walkthroughs for each colossus into the popup.

With just about a month to do the project, I will need to do about 5 colossi a week.  This will give me the full rough draft no later than 3 weeks.  From there I can do the fine tuning on the design.

Even though the game is a decade old, it is still seen as one of the best games ever created, but not as well known as Super Mario or Final Fantasy 7.  For the rare few out there that still play this game, it will be very useful.  It may not be the most used map, but it will allow me to create a type of map that I am not used to.

Lab 7

Blog Post 6

This map, although old in design, provides a great amount of information at the beginning showing the information regarding what to expect when viewing this map.

This map provides a very well designed timeline that shows a great amount of national data across a a substantial amount of time.

I picked this map as it not only shows what happened and the level of damage but it also explains why it occurred and the science behind the tectonic plates.

The alignment is not perfect but it still allows for the user to identify the drastic changes brought on by the tsunami.  Especially the ones at the coastline.

Blog Post 1 - Interactive Map

Battle of Chickamauga Animated Map

I chose this map as it portrays history in a very visual way.  It is often difficult to visually realize how the Civil War was fought.  This particular map also provides historic insight behind the battle.
